FERPA - For All College Students and Parents
Something every college student and their parents should read and be aware of is FERPA and how it relates to contacting professors.
1. The actual FERPA site: http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html
2. What FERPA means for you and your college student: http://www.collegeparents.org/members/resources/articles/what-ferpa-means-you-and-your-college-student
Many people are not fully aware of the implications of this federal law and that forms must be filled out and on file with the proper offices at the student's college/university in order for professors to be allowed to communicate with parents of students. Students are treated as an adult by colleges/universities and by federal law so, the professors cannot say or type one word unless the student specifically authorizes them to do so.
And so it goes...
