Book Review: Crashing Through by Robert Kurson

A CLPL Book Club read, for the fiction club but this is one of their non-fiction selections, based on the life of Mike May, one I had to catch up on because I had to teach when they met for this read.  I thought it was interesting but at times a bit too campy or cheesy.  I thought Mike May was a little too obsessed with seeing women (and their body parts) when he gained his sight; but, it is a somewhat hopeful and uplifting book, just not enough to make it truly memorable.

Book Review: In the President's Secret Service by Ronald Kessler

Non-Fiction Book Club read at CLPL for July 2012.  I thought it was a bit gossipy but the information on the Secret Service was interesting.  I had no idea how overworked, underfunded, and poorly managed they are, yet they do such great work despite adverse conditions.  Definitely worth a read, it is a pretty quick one.

Book Review: The Widower's Tale by Julia Glass

Read for fiction Book Club at CLPL for July 2012. I thought it was a good book but the ending happened very quickly and was somewhat disappointing. However, the first 2/3 of the book was well written with some eye opening passages and discussion of current hot topics (class struggles, immigration, education). The main character Percy had some fantastic passages with real wit in his dialogue. Definitely worth a read!
